FORTHCOMING ‘ATTRACTIONS’:

A Brief Speculation on What I Might Write Next.

Apologies for not getting a fresh post up for a while. But, in mitigation, I do get the impression most people appreciated the previous post, so that kind of makes up for its longevity.

I’m mega-busy with a variety of things – essentially, I’m trying to fight a war on approximately four fronts.

I’m battling a variety cases for my constituents.

Whilst I’m trying to fight off various assaults by the Jersey oligarchy.

Whilst preparing and writing-up my personal legal action against the UK Justice Secretary, Jack Straw.

Whilst occasionally wondering around the, now, tidy workshop and trying to meld bits of tree into something people might want to buy one day.

Sadly, this latter activity always comes a distant fourth. Though having said that, I did buy two wonderful pieces of Douglas Fir recently – following an epic excavation through the largely unimpressive timber stock of a Jersey merchant.

And – I’ve even managed to get a mirrored, razor edge on the blade of my Lie Neilson No. 8 try-plane using my 8000 grit Japanese waterstone.

Not an easy ask – with a blade made of A-2 cryogenically treated tool-steel, hardened to Rockwell 60-62.

But no – I must restrain myself from going into woodwork-nerd-mode - for the time-being.

I’m saving that as a ‘special treat’ for my loyal readers.

No – I thought I should just provide you with a bulletin as to what I’m planning to try and write in the coming days.

Firstly – I will be writing about the prosecution of two non-oligarchy Jersey politicians - for the heinous offence of helping disabled ex-servicemen apply for a postal vote.

To be clear – not, as the Jersey oligarchy have portrayed it – something akin to ballot fraud as seen in certain UK elections in recent years. Instead this “crime” was simply helping the elderly, the infirm, those who do not have English as a first language to merely apply for a postal vote.

I’ll save all the surreal, crypto-fascist absurdity of the situation for the substantive post.

Then I thought I would write a post concerning governmental reform in Jersey; the only jurisdiction in western Europe actually heading back towards feudalism.

And – I thought I might write something concerning the sheer mind-boggling stupidity and ‘Groupthink’ we see manifested in the Jersey polity.

Actually – I may well combine the above two subjects – so well do they compliment each-other.

Then – in a few days time – I want to produce a post about a subject that still fills me with bitter anger.

Tomorrow – Wednesday 27th May – a trial begins in New York city.

On trial are the oil company Royal Dutch Shell.

Effectively, this western transnational corporation was complicit – and thus guilty – in the 1995 murder of Ken Saro-Wiwa.

Ken was a leader of the Ogoni people of the Niger Delta; he was an immensely brave campaigner for the rights of Delta people and against the environmental genocide which was being inflicted upon them by the military regime – with the backing and complicity of Shell.

The murder of Ken Saro-Wiwa and his co-campaigners happened in November 1995. It so happened that, shortly after, the States of Jersey were debating a proposition to sell some land at the airport to Shell.

When the debate began, I stood and strenuously opposed the sale – saying that Shell had blood on its hands.

The resultant political fire-storm had to be experienced to be understood. It attracted international media attention – and, when the States inevitably agreed the sale – left me feeling appalled and sickened.

I will write a detailed post on the subject – but only when I feel strong enough.

When I look back and try and contemplate the attitude of most States members during that episode - I find myself thinking of lyrics from a Nick Cave song.

‘People just ain’t no good.
I think that’s well understood.
You see it everywhere you look –
People just ain’t no good.

Stuart.

Stuart, I don't agree with you on a lot of things but i look forward to your post on Ken Saro-Wiwa. I remember feeling sickened at the time. Who were the politicians, back in 1995, behind the land sale?

I do look forward to your views on the proposed reforms of the Assembly Stuart. The establishing of super constituencies and the removal of senators from the House is clearly foreign to reality and must be resisted by all thinking politicians, er..... Well, at least you'll have one supporter with regard to the latter item. Our dear Madame Connetable here in the Leafy Loveliness stated quite clearly in her hustings address that she was in favour of retaining senators despite Clothier's suggestion. I remember openly applauding her on this point. Of course, I was the only member of the audience who did. What gives in St. Lawrence? In any case, I do hope we can keep up the Hamptonne cordiale and get on with our neighbours from the northerly parishes because we'll soon be sharing their ballot boxes if we're not careful.

Child protection report filed
States police have filed a report on child protection issues with the Education department after a teacher was arrested on suspicion
of assaulting two teenage children.
MARIO LUNDY, director of education said that he will “thoroughly consider everything that is within the report.

What about considering his own position
This man is under investigation for serious abuse of children .
Why has he not been suspended?

Does that mean that he has already considered the report on himself? Isn't he the wrong man for the job?

Stuart - with reference to your last thread it seems that GATTA is now going to open the back up on Planet Jersey and contravene the Data Protection Laws big time by allowing 2 members of Planet Jersey to view IP addresses and email addresses of all members of Planet Jersey along with a member of CID.

I am no computor nerd believe me but I do believe that people (like GATTA) seem to have the ability to wipe things if so desired.

By inviting 2nd 3rd and 4th parties and sending that information to them seems a very stupid decision to make, perhaps a nerd who has more knowledge than I can confirm if I am right relating to wiping things off, also if someone who understands the Data Protection Law sharing IP addresses, email addresses and other information is contravening this act.

It suggested that anyone who has joined and posted on Planet Jersey is having their information disclosed. This is perhaps a serious offence and needs looking into. If so those users who have posted on Planet Jersey from the UK or any other Foreign Country should be contacting their Police. Surely they must be breaking their own code of privacy by doing this.

Government reform- woopee.
I hope you're now up for outing the Constables.
Personally I think the Jersey political system fails its 21st Century citizens just like it failed women and poor people in times past.
People who state how wonderfully democratic Jersey is need to read up on democracy.

What's this about a teacher assaulting children? Has the teacher or school been named? And if the allegations about Mario Lundy are true how the hell can he, not only still be in post, but have anything to do with being "the judge" over this teacher?

I believe anybody with an "independent" view would take one look at our education system and shut the lot down.

On that note, I would like to make a couple of predictions. I predict Deputy James Reed will be facing an election in 2011 and I also predict he will lose his seat.

In light of the JEP article last night on the mentally ill, I am beginning to think it is safer to be inside a mental institution these days than outside of it.

It has come to my attention that many families are having trouble containing their mentally ill relatives and they are not getting any individual help when such relatives decide not to take their medication.

Isn't it about time that this social problem was addressed, or, are the authorities going to wait until someone is murdered.

Sen S Syvret you can't give up politics, there are too many things that need mending in our society and not enough people willing to 'chew gum and kick ass' and get things done.

Lundy has not been ousted because the people at the helm of the great island have know morals.
They are only prepared to protect those from within, and as for children they come along way down , but as long as the money keeps flooding into the island and jersey can pretend to have a clean image then nothing else matters.
We really need an overhaul of the way the states is run theres to much of the old pals act, and the people! need a vote on cm not a bunch of if i vote for u im sure you will look after me syndrome , one word comes to mind is very corrupt, but the good people of jersey are at long last starting to wake up to the fact we,ve been taken for fools and lined these peoples pockets , swaning all over the world at the tax payers expense , and what u said stuart about dandaraIRA well its a well known fact in the building trade! how the hell did there get into the island? a few sweetners no doubt

Regarding wiping computers clean, The only certain way I found to rid a machine of sensitive data, is to 1. Replace the hard drive with a brand new one, 2. Rebuild your system and copy any usefull programmes or drivers from the old drive using an external USB plug adaptor, 3. Unscrew the the old Drive lid then phyically smash/destroy the disc platters, because even when erased data can still be recovered by a certain company over here, offering data retrieval even from erased discs!.

Stuart 2 questions mate.

Any news about Graham Power?-whens he getting his job back?

If Mario Lundy disciplines these teachers regarding their alleged assault on pupils wont they have a strong case that he is conflicted?

He is under investigation for similar crimes so I fail to see how he can be objective in such a case.

"Don't tell me the reason these "pack of animals" behaved the way they did is down to "bad parenting" and couldn't possibly have anything to do with the "schooling" they might have recieved.

So let's lock these wicked kids up, no tell you what why not zap them with 50,000 volts out of a stun gun first and then look to blame the parents.

The sooner a bright torch is shined into our Education Department, the sooner this sort of behaviour will stop.....All in my opinion naturally"!!

And so, so wrong! Having read your experiences with your child and the education system VFC, I cannot imagine what it must be like to have children in the Jersey system. I am so glad my grandchildren are being educated in the UK - despite the fact that my MP is one of the worst expenses offenders! When I was younger I used to dream of coming back home and raising my family in Jersey. That was before the scales fell from my eyes back in February 2008.

I don't know how you as parents and grandparents can restrain yourselves at the moment with Mario Lundy still in post. You must feel powerless against the old boys and golf chums network.Thank goodness for Stuart's blog and his courage. If I was over there at the moment I am sure I would have been locked up by now!!!

Hello folks, just a brief post as I hear a number of you are interested in the Data Protection Act for various reasons. The eight main provisions for keeping and using data are as follows:

The act contains eight “Data Protection Principles”. These specify that personal data must be:

1.Processed fairly and lawfully.

2.Obtained for specified and lawful purposes.

3.Adequate, relevant and not excessive.

4.Accurate and up to date.

5.Not kept any longer than necessary.

6.Processed in accordance with the “data subject’s” (the individual’s) rights.

7.Securely kept.

8.Not transferred to any other country without adequate protection in situ. ( usually this means not outside the EU).

It seems to me that to give out personal IP information to others, along with e-mail addresses, contravenes numbers 1, 7 and 6. If any one would like to find out more then look at http://www.dataprotectionact.org to find out individual rights if the principles are being contravened.

The problem is though, over here if we would like to make a complaint we would need to complain to the appropriate data controller or the data commissioner if needs be - but who is the data commissioner regarding web-pages and the internet?

I'm a bit of a computer nerd myself, but don't really delve in too deep in the land of Law.

My knowledge of computer laws doesn't go further than what I did for an IT exam.

Hope that helps.

Your next post should be interesting Stuart - should provide some thought-provoking reading as always.

There's a lot written on this blog about how awful the "oligarchy" are but when the lease for Shell's premises came up locally and people such as Stuart campaigned to get the States to refuse it on moral grounds what was even more horrifying than the unconcern of the "establishment" was the naked and highly unpleasant attitude of the Shell workers at a meeting called to discuss this.

Frankly, they didn't give a damn about Ken Saro-Wiwa and the rest and were loudly and nastily proud of their (at least) amoral position - just as long as their jobs didn't get threatened by even the teensy weensy'est amount. It was disgusting.

It was widely acknowledged at the time he announced his retirement that Tom McKeon had been grooming Mario Lundy for his job for many years. This kind of succession planning, if allowed to manifest itself unchecked, could allow for the continuation of a certain types of malpractice.

Now a double page spread in the caring rag explaining why those poor dear investors had to be compensated with £600,000 of our money.
Not only has the rag found it's social concience but so has the Terry the twit and his merry band (aka The C of M).
These people were innocents who were duped by duplicitous blaggards according to Terry. He told stories of old ladies who had been conned into an inapropriate investment vehicle and HAD to be compensated by our tax money.

Anyone else out there not entirely convinced either?

It seems our formally right-wing free market loving ministers have decided to get involved in the market.
If this is a general change of policy I would like to be the first to welcome it as it will no doubt be of great use to anyone who was missold endowment mortgages, given dodgy financial advice or who believed that by entrusting their savings to a high street bank that their money would be safe.

Maybe you didn't you read Ben Queree's insightful piece yesterday ridiculing any such notion as an establishment party.

Or could it be that the seemingly lobotomised man in the picture is another in a proud line of crap jep reporters who can't recognise a news story if it doesn't come directly from an official source?

Dear Stuart

My continuing saga with the BBC complaints department. I've posted the response below that arrived today. Needless to say I will be 'escalating' to level 2 of the procedure, but wont hold my breath as I'm likely to expire.

Read and enjoy!

"Thank you for your further submission via the BBC Complaints website
regarding BBC Jersey. Whilst I'm naturally sorry to learn of your
disappointment with my earlier reply, I'm afraid there is little more I can
usefully add.

Your email mentions my dealings with another complainant on the island but
I am not at liberty to discuss any contacts with other parties as such
matters are confidential and subject to the Data Protection Act. Also,
thank you for providing me with a copy of Senator Syvret's blog, the
content of which has been noted.

I appreciate you may continue to have concerns on this issue and if you
wish to escalate the matter to Stage 2 of the BBC Complaints process
believing that a serious and specific breach of the BBC's published
Editorial Guidelines has occurred (and you are able to provide specific
broadcast examples), you may contact the BBC's Editorial Complaints Unit
who will independently investigate your complaint. You can write to them at
the following address:

BBC
Editorial Complaints Unit
Room 5168
White City
201 Wood Lane
London, W12 7TS

Whether or not you choose to pursue your complaint with the ECU please be
assured your further concerns have been registered."

Thankyou The Thinker for trying to clarify the Data Protection Law.

Having made several enquiries today the Owner of the Planet Jersey site is definately walking on a thin line if he forwards information relating to users of the site.

I am even more surprised that Ole Rassy has agreed to take part in this exercise. I have always had respect for his posts on PJ even if they are a little off the wall at times, but he is sadly aligning himself to what could be an illegal act.

Diplaying the information to ordinary members is not ethical.

Ole razzy said...

I agree it's not ethical. But if you read what ADMIN on PJ has said no IP addresses nor email accounts will be viewable. The intention is, as I understand it, to show that the operating platform is secure. ADMIN have made it catergorically clear that no data protection officers, CID or selected PJ members will have any access to sensitive and personal information.

I'm not doing this to snoop. I'm doing it to re-assure myself that the system is full proof. I would have more to lose then most if my ID was exposed believe me.

People may not like certain individuals on PJ for their anti Syvret stance but it does allow for alternative views (which I have often expressed) and have done so without heavy handed moderation or threats.

And one more thing. Debumblebee has been banned I found out so we won't be hearing from him for a while. Thank god!

I leave this message here merely as a record of fact. It is several weeks since I was asked to particpate in the scrutiny of Planet Jersey's 'back end' and certainly nobody will be re-visiting this thread, however, setting aside the moral rights and wrongs of the issue I would like to say that since agreeing to participate I have heard nothing from the administration of PJ. I have emailed several times requesting an update but nothing.

I will continue to post there, so long as they allow me, as I enjoy reading and contibuting to many different points of view, just as I do on this blog, in the JEP and other local media sources. But I do feel a bit let down by them, I genuinley felt it was worth defending the sites openess to a diversity of ideas but I now I am not so sure why I bothered.

6 questions for Adrian Walsh who we know reads this blog.

1. Why haven't you answered Ole Razzy's repeated emails about the CID/Data Protection check of Planet Jersey?

2. What is happening with the CID/Data Protection check of Planet Jersey?

3. If the check has happened what were the results?

4. Can we have names of the CID/ Data Protection officers to confirm it happened?

5. If the check didn't happen, why not?

6. Why have you failed to update Planet Jersey members about the check?

Until you answer these questions Adrian Walsh you have lost me as a visitor to Planet Jersey. I do not feel comfortable using a website where the owner makes a big noisy shout about calling in the Police to prove the sites safety and then goes dead silent about it after.
